Menu: Analyze / Sections

This function creates cross-sections along an alignment or a line between two picked points. Points within the section box appear in a secondary view window. Within this secondary window, points may be picked for virtual surveying or selected to be classified or deleted.

Different settings are available for this function:

  • By alignment: A list of alignments available in the database may be selected here with the drop-down menu. The user may add alignments to this list by using the pick points tool or the alignment tool.

  • By points: Two points that will be used as an alignment must be picked. The cross-section will be perpendicular to the segment between those two points. The “=” button will copy the coordinate in the first field to the second field to ensure the path is perpendicular to the axis.

  • Show:  Opens the second view which shows the points in the cross-section. The bounding box of the section can be seen in the main window. The section itself is perpendicular to the chosen path and will have the thickness, height and width specified.

  • Next / Previous: Move the secondary view to the next or previous cross-section along the path. The distance between each step is defined by the “Step” field.

  • Thickness, height, width: Dimensions of the cross-section bounding box.

  • Step: Distance between cross-sections along the path.
