Menu: Civil / Start / Profiles

The Profiles interface in VisionLidar’s Civil Module enables users to generate, view, and manage multiple profiles based on alignments and surfaces. Profiles are essential for terrain analysis, road design, and infrastructure planning.

1. Key Features of the Profiles Interface

Create and Manage Multiple Profiles – Organize multiple profile configurations efficiently.
Customize Profile Appearance – Define profile styles, layers, and reference alignments.
Flexible Alignment Selection – Display vertical curves, PI lines, and surface layers for better visualization.
Automatic Grid Adjustment – Adjusts profile elevations based on selected surfaces and alignments.

2. Creating and Managing Profiles

Expand the Profile List – Click "+" next to "Profiles" to see the list of available profiles.
Create a New Profile – Right-click on "Profiles" and add a profile. The default name will be Profile_x (incremental numbering).
Set Profile Origin – Define the drawing origin for the profile grid (default: 0,0 at the CAD origin).
Select Surface and Alignment – Choose a reference surface and alignment for generating the profile.

3. Profile Configuration Options

Option

Description

Profile Name

Unique name assigned to the profile, displayed in the tree view.

Surface

Select the surface that will define the profile elevation and grid adjustments.

Profile Style

Choose a predefined profile style (configured in preferences).

View

Opens a graphical viewer to inspect the profile before drawing.

Draw

Plots the profile in CAD at the specified origin.

Erase

Removes the profile drawing from CAD.

Drawing Origin

Defines the profile's insertion point in the drawing. Right-click to input coordinates manually or pick a point in the main window.

Chaining Start

Defines the starting chainage (station) for the profile grid. Defaults to the first alignment’s start.

Chaining End

Defines the end chainage of the profile grid. Defaults to the alignment’s endpoint unless specified.

Datum Plane

Sets the minimum elevation for the profile grid (defaults to the lowest surface elevation, rounded down).

Alignments of References

Displays reference alignments in the profile. Options include: Vertical curves, PI lines, and surface layers with customizable colors.

Layers

Opens a menu to select which surface layers will be displayed in the profile and assigns colors.

Add Reference Line

Allows adding additional reference alignments to the profile.

4. Best Practices for Profile Management

Use multiple profiles to analyze different design scenarios effectively.
Enable vertical curve display for road and railway design applications.
Customize layer visibility to focus on key surface details.
Set precise drawing origins to align profiles with other CAD elements.
Review profiles before drawing using the View function to prevent errors.
