Fence

Menu: Edit / Fence

In VisionLidar, fences allow you to isolate specific areas of the point cloud, reducing processing time by focusing only on the area of interest. You can create multiple fences and apply different operations to filter or manipulate points within them.

Creating a Fence

  1. Click “Add new Fence” and assign it a name (optional).

  2. Define the fence boundary by clicking the left mouse button to place vertices around the desired area.

  3. Right-click to close the polygon and finalize the fence.

💡 The fence behaves like the “Selection Tool,” allowing concave or convex shapes but without intersecting lines.

Fence Operations

Once a fence is created, you can choose from the following options:

  • Hide Out – Hides all points outside the fence.

  • Hide In – Hides all points inside the fence.

  • Delete Fence – Removes the currently selected fence.

  • Rename Fence – Renames the selected fence.

  • Select Points – Selects the currently visible points and opens the Selection dialog.

  • Export for Training – Exports visible points as a .PLY file, which can be used for AI model training.

  • Create Surface – Generates a surface from the visible points within the fence.

Understanding Fences in VisionLidar

  • Fences are 2D shapes, independent of the point cloud.

  • Filtered points remain hidden based on their position when the fence was applied.

  • Fences remain visible in the same screen location even when navigating the point cloud.

  • Fences and Bounding Boxes cannot be used simultaneously—activating a fence will disable the bounding box, and vice versa.
