The Holes Tab in VisionLidar’s Civil Module provides tools for defining and managing holes within a surface. Holes prevent triangulation in specific areas, ensuring that no surface is created within their boundaries. These are useful for representing voids such as lakes, excavation sites, or restricted zones.
1. Understanding the Holes Tab
✔ Manages the Points Defining Holes in the Surface
Holes are created inside a closed line in the Breaklines Tab.
If no breakline exists, the outline of the surface will be used as the hole’s border.
No triangles will be generated within the hole, and contour lines will stop at the hole's edge.
✔ Best Practice: First, Define a Closed Breakline
Before picking a hole, draw a closed breakline around it.
This ensures precise boundaries and prevents unexpected triangulation.
2. Available Functions in the Holes Tab
The options in the window and the pop-up menu are a less complete selection of the options found in the points tab.
3. Best Practices for Defining Holes
✔ Always use a closed breakline to define hole boundaries before picking a hole.
✔ Check the contours after adding holes to ensure the surface is correctly interrupted.
✔ Modify elevations if holes represent different depth levels within the project.
