Menu: File / Project info / Color by density

This tool is only available from the "project information" window.

Upon opening the function, the "minimum value" and "maximum value" as well as all the values in the range of colors are set to 0. To populate these fields with density values, "Compute density" must be activated. Before computing the density, a "grid size" may be set; there will be a simplification of the point cloud in order to calculate and display the density more quickly.

The "grid size" parameter will cut the project in 3D tiles with the entered value and will retain only 1 point within that tile. The smaller the "grid size" value, the more points will be included in the display; the larger the "grid size" value, the less points will be included.

Once the density has been calculated, values will appear for the "minimum value", the "maximum value" and the histogram (range of colors).

Changing the "minimum value" and "maximum value" will change the display limits. This way, by increasing the "minimum value", for example, the composition of the histogram and the display will be changed. This can provide a more representative visualization in many cases.

A .PDF report can be created with this tool. The report will contain a title, a subtitle, a histogram and a printscreen print screen of the main viewer. To have values in the report’s histogram, “Compute density” will calculate the distribution of points within the defined ranges. To modify the title and subtitle, click on the “...” button next to the “Report” button. The titles may be personalized here.

In the example below, the points in blue are less dense areas and the points in red are more dense areas.
