Menu: Survey / Alignment
The Alignment Manager in VisionLidar enables users to create, modify, delete, and
interrogate differentanalyze horizontal alignments
inwithin the
sameVision database.
Alignments
created are used in many functions of the software: sections and profiles, camera path, road by sections, etc.An alignment manager is also available in the Civil module, where more options may be used; including vertical alignment management.
The left column shows the various alignments created, the central part (optional via “Calculation on alignment”) is used to calculate offsets and rights-of-way over the alignments and finally the right side is usedare crucial for sections, profiles, road modeling, and camera paths.
1. Overview of Alignment Manager
The Alignment Manager interface consists of:
✔ Left Panel – Displays all created alignments.
✔ Center Panel (Optional: "Calculation on Alignment") – Computes offsets and distances along alignments.
✔ Right Panel – Used to define and manage the selected alignment.
Here is the list of the different options available within the alignment manager
Compute dist./offset: Computes
✔ "Raw Align." Tab – Lists the points of intersection (PI) making up the alignment.
✔ "Horizontal Alignment" Tab – Displays individual segments of the alignment.
💡 Alignments created in this tool are exclusively horizontal alignments. Vertical alignments must be managed in the Civil Module.
2. Available Functions in Alignment Manager
Computation & Modification
✔ Compute Distance/Offset – Calculates the distance of a point along
the alignment and its offset
.
✔ Compute
Point(s)
– Generates a point at
a specific distance
Compute offset: Calculate and draw the right and left offset alignment. The name and offset value of each side must be specified.
Save: Save the changes on the alignment.
Validate points: Used to determine whether there are already points at the vertices entered.
Create points: Creates points at the coordinates of the alignment vertices that do not already have them.
Report: Produce a text report of the alignment definition. It can be saved as a text file.
Invert: Used to invert the order of the alignment points.
Reinitialize: Delete the alignment definition.
Import/Export LandXML: Allows you to import and export alignments in XML format.
Pick Points: Adds points to the alignment by picking them on the drawing.
Pick Polyline: Adds points to the alignment by selecting a polyline; the function will create temporary points at each vertex. If the “Validate Points” function is used later on, it will check for matches between existing points on the vertices of the polyline and the temporary points. If the “Create Points” function is used, new points will be created at each temporary vertex in the alignment.
Draw/Erase: Allows you to draw or erase the alignment in the drawing.
& offset.
By Interval Option – Creates multiple points at regular intervals along the alignment.
✔ Compute Offset – Draws left and right offset alignments with user-defined values.
Alignment Management
✔ Save – Saves any changes made to the alignment.
✔ Validate Points – Checks if there are existing points at the alignment vertices.
✔ Create Points – Generates new points at alignment vertices that lack points.
✔ Report – Produces a text report detailing the alignment’s geometry and structure.
✔ Invert – Reverses the order of alignment points.
✔ Reinitialize – Deletes the alignment definition while keeping the points in the database.
✔ Import/Export LandXML – Imports and exports alignments in LandXML format for CAD & civil engineering software.
Picking Points & Drawing Alignments
✔ Pick Points – Adds alignment points by manually picking them in the drawing.
✔ Pick Polyline – Converts a polyline into an alignment, creating temporary points at each vertex.
Validate Points Option – Matches existing points to polyline vertices.
Create Points Option – Generates new points at polyline vertices.
✔ Draw/Erase Alignment – Displays or removes the alignment in the drawing view.
3. Understanding Horizontal Alignments
✔ Raw Alignment Tab – Shows tangent intersections used in alignment construction.
✔ Horizontal Alignment Tab – Lists all alignment segments, which can be:
Lines
Curves
Spirals
Spiral-Curve-Spiral combinations
💡 For advanced vertical alignments (road grading, elevation profiles), refer to Civil Module – Alignment Section.
4. Key Benefits of the Alignment Manager
✔ Versatile Application – Used in road design, railways, and land development.
✔ Comprehensive Control – Modify offsets, distances, and geometry with precision.
✔ Flexible Input Methods – Define alignments using points, polylines, or LandXML imports.
✔ Seamless Integration – Works with sections, profiles, camera paths, and corridor modeling.
✔ Export-Ready – Share alignments in LandXML format for use in BIM, CAD, and GIS platforms.
