The Catenary Detection module consists of four main tabs: Poles, Lines, Spans, and Line Clearance. These tools allow you to detect, vectorize, and analyze catenary power lines and their surrounding environment efficiently.

Poles

The Poles tab allows you to detect and vectorize poles in your dataset. You can do this in two ways:

  1. Manual DetectionImage Removed: Select a point from a pole, and the module will detect and vectorize the pole.

  2. Automatic Detection Image Removed: Use the provided classification to detect all poles automatically. Note that poles must be classified beforehand for this method to work.

Editing and Parameter Adjustment

  • Detected poles can be manually edited using the available tools.

  • The Settings button allows you to adjust detection parameters if the default values do not suit your dataset.

Detection Parameters

To refine pole detection, you can adjust the following parameters:

  • Min. segment length: Defines the minimum segment length that will be detected.

  • Max. segment length: Defines the maximum segment length allowed for detection.

  • Max. Z distance: Controls the maximum allowable vertical deviation between detected segments.

  • Max. XY distance: Limits the horizontal distance considered for pole detection.

  • Search radius: Determines the area in which the algorithm searches for other power lines.

  • Min. distance between lines: Prevents detecting excessive lines within a small area.

Lines

The Lines tab offers three methods for detecting power lines:

  1. Manual SelectionImage Removed: Select two points to create a line, which will be detected as a power line.

  2. Semi-Automatic Detection Image Removed: Select a point, and the module will detect and vectorize nearby power lines.

  3. Fully Automatic Detection Image Removed: Detect and vectorize all power lines using predefined classification classes.

Once a power line is detected and vectorized, you can:

  • Select and visualize it.

  • Modify its color and attributes.

  • Edit and refine detected lines as needed.

  • Classify manually detected lines as power linesImage Removed

  • Adjust detection parameters via the Settings menu to better match your dataset.

Spans

The Spans tab is used to detect the sections of power lines between two poles. This is essential for Clash Detection in the Line Clearance tab.

  • Manual Creation Image Removed: Select two distinct poles to define a span.

  • Automatic Detection Image Removed: If poles and lines are already detected, use the span detection tool to automatically create spans.

  • Span Analysis: Once spans are defined, you can use them to detect and analyze power lines within those spans.

  • Adjust detection parameters via the Settings menu to better match your dataset.

Line Clearance

The Line Clearance tab contains two modules for analyzing power line safety:

  1. Clash Detection Image Removed: Identifies vegetation interference within a span. It highlights areas where vegetation needs to be trimmed to ensure safe clearances.

  2. Distance to Ground Image Removed: Analyzes the clearance of power lines relative to the ground, ensuring compliance with local safety regulations. Detected interferences can be visualized in the 3D scene and a detailed report of detected clearance issues can be generated for documentation and compliance purposes.

  3. Adjust detection parameters via the Settings menu to better match your dataset.

By utilizing these tools, you can efficiently detect, vectorize, and analyze power lines while ensuring they meet safety standards. 🚀

Key Functionalities

Automatic & Semi-Automatic Detection

  • Detects and vectorizes overhead power lines and poles from the point cloud.

  • Identifies spans between two poles, helping with infrastructure analysis.

Clash Detection (Vegetation Interference)

  • Analyzes vegetation encroachment into power lines.

  • Helps assess clearance violations that may pose safety hazards.

Clearance Distance Reports

  • Measures the distance between power lines and the ground.

  • Generates detailed reports to ensure compliance with safety regulations.

2. Generating Reports

A .PDF report can be created, containing:
Vectorized power lines and poles
Clash detection results (vegetation interference)
Clearance distance measurements

This helps in powerline inspection, vegetation management, and infrastructure planning.
