Point List Registration
Menu: File / Registration / Using a list
The registration using a point list follows a similar approach to the Point-to-Point method. However, instead of manually selecting reference points in another point cloud, this method relies on an ASCII file containing predefined control points in ID X Y Z format.
How to Use the Registration with a Point List Tool
1. Selecting Files
Choose the scan file to be moved from the “To Move File” drop-down list.
Instead of selecting a reference point cloud, load an ASCII file containing the reference point coordinates.
Ensure the ASCII file follows this format:
ID X Y Z
(Columns must be separated by spaces.)
Click “Load Point List” to import the file.
2. Assigning Corresponding Points
Once the list is loaded, the X Y Z coordinates of the reference points will appear in a table.
For each point in the list, the user must manually select a corresponding point in the point cloud.
It is crucial to know the exact position of the reference points before selecting their matches.
Using the "Pick by 4 Points" Option
This feature allows you to define a point by selecting four surrounding points.
A cross-like picking method is used, where the final point is placed at the center of the selected four points for improved accuracy.
3. Validating and Applying the Transformation
Click “Validate” to compare the reference points from the list with the selected points in the point cloud.
The system will display the difference between the theoretical point and the picked point along with the calculated transformation.
If necessary, adjust the selections for better accuracy.
4. Finalizing the Registration
Once the results are satisfactory, click “Apply” to process the transformation.
Click “Reindex and Reopen” to permanently apply the registration and regenerate the point cloud index.
5. Exporting a Registration Report
Click “Report” to generate a .TXT report, which includes:
All control points.
The differences between theoretical and selected points.
The standard deviation and transformation values applied.
