Update a LAS
Menu: Tools / Update a LAS
The "Update a LAS" tool allows users to update LAS files with modified attributes, ensuring the latest classification, color, or coordinate data is reflected in the dataset. This function is useful when working with point clouds that require reclassification, coordinate adjustments, or color modifications.
How to Use the Update a LAS Tool
Select the VL project file or LAS folder:
Click the "..." button next to the VL project file or VL LAS folder field to browse and select the project or folder containing the LAS files to be updated.
If updating an entire folder, check the "All in folder" option.
Select the Original LAS files:
Click the "..." button next to the Original LAS files field to locate the original LAS files.
These files serve as a reference for updating specific attributes.
Select the attributes to update:
Classes: Updates the classification of points in the LAS file.
Color: Updates the RGB color attributes of the point cloud.
Coordinates: Updates the XYZ coordinate data of the LAS file.
Select individual LAS files or check all:
Use the Check All button to select all LAS files in the list, or manually check/uncheck individual files.
Start the update process:
Click Start Update to begin the update process.
A progress bar at the bottom of the window will indicate the update status.
Cancel if needed:
Click the Cancel button to abort the update process at any time.
Additional Notes:
The file type dropdown menu (visible in the second screenshot) allows users to specify the output format (e.g., LAS, LAZ).
This tool ensures that changes made to a LAS file are properly integrated without requiring a complete reprocessing of the point cloud.
It is recommended to backup LAS files before performing updates, in case a rollback is needed.
This tool simplifies the LAS data management workflow by enabling targeted updates, ensuring that the latest modifications are applied efficiently.
