Menu: View / Color by Elevation

The Color by Elevation viewing mode assigns colors to points based on their Z-axis elevation, providing a clear visualization of height variations. Users can define elevation ranges, customize color palettes, and generate reports with histograms and annotations.

How to Use Color by Elevation

1. Setting Elevation Ranges

  • Min. Elevation & Max. Elevation – Define the extreme values of the elevation range.

  • Pick Point – Select a point in the point cloud to retrieve its elevation.

  • Cut Lower & Cut Upper – Hide points below the minimum or above the maximum elevation.

    • If disabled, extreme elevation points will be displayed using boundary colors.

  • By Interval – Automatically determines min/max elevations using equidistant intervals.

2. Customizing Colors

  • Manually adjust the color range for elevation display.

  • Save and load custom color palettes using:

    • “Load Color Table”

    • “Save Color Table”

3. Generating a PDF Report

A PDF report can be generated, containing:

  • Title and subtitle (customizable via the “...” button).

  • Histogram of point elevation distribution.

  • Screenshot of the main viewer.

Computing the Histogram

  • Click “Compute Histogram” to analyze point distribution within the defined elevation range.

  • Important: The histogram includes all visible points. To focus on a specific area:

    • Use “Cut Lower” and “Cut Upper” to restrict elevation range.

    • Define a Fence to isolate a region.

4. Adding Annotations

Annotations allow users to mark specific elevations in the report.

Steps to Add Annotations

  1. Click “Pick Point” and select an area in the main screen.

  2. Click again to place the label in the desired position.

  3. Repeat for multiple annotations, then click “Stop Picking” when done.

Customizing Annotations

  • Modify annotation size and precision in Settings > View > Measurements.

  • To delete an annotation, click “Delete”, then select the annotation to remove.

  • Export annotations to .TXT or .DXF formats using “Export”.

5. Additional Viewing Tools

  • Set Perpendicular View – Aligns the view top-down for better visualization.

  • Finalizing the Report – After setting elevation ranges, computing the histogram, and adding annotations, click “Create Report” to generate the PDF.

💡 Tip: For optimal results, hide unwanted classes and scans or use a Fence before generating the report.
