The Road Marking Detection module allows users to detect road markings either semi-automatically or automatically based on point intensity. The module generates polylines with regularly spaced points, following user-defined parameters.
The detection process shares settings with Edge detection but includes an additional parameter: minimum intensity, which is automatically set based on the lowest intensity value between the two selected points. The detection algorithm creates points along bright road markings as long as the specified parameters are met. A high point density is recommended to ensure accurate detection.
Detection Methods
Semi-Automatic Detection
The user selects two points to initiate detection.
The first point serves as the starting point, while the second determines the detection direction.
Automatic Detection
The user specifies a trajectory by selecting either an alignment or image positions (for MMS).
The search area is defined by setting the left & right offsets and specifying the start and end indices either manually or by clicking on the point cloud.
Detection Parameters
Min. Intensity: The minimum intensity threshold (in %) for a point to be included in the detected line. It is automatically set based on the lowest intensity of the selected points.
Max. Segment Length: The maximum allowable distance between consecutive points in the detected polyline.

Elevation Tolerance: The maximum difference in elevation allowed between detected points.
Distance Tolerance: A buffer used to locate the next point in the sequence.
Deviation Tolerance: The maximum allowable deviation from the previous detected point.
