Picking Cylinders
Menu: Survey / Pick Cylinder
The Pick Cylinder tool enables users to detect cylindrical objects within the point cloud and place a survey point at the base of each detected cylinder. This tool is particularly useful for identifying poles, pipes, and structural columns in surveying and infrastructure projects.
1. Detecting Cylindrical Objects
✔ Activate the tool and click on a point that is part of a cylinder.
✔ The system will attempt to detect the full cylinder automatically.
✔ If detection fails, adjust the following settings:
Increase point cloud density (if too sparse).
Modify detection parameters in Menu: Settings / Objects / Cylinders:
Min/Max cylinder radius
Minimum number of points required for detection
2. Surveying the Cylinder Base
✔ Once a cylinder is detected, it will be added to the Explorer under Objects → Cylinders.
✔ The user must pick a point on the screen to determine the elevation.
✔ The Pick Points/Lines window will appear, registering the bottom center of the cylinder as a survey point.
3. Repeating the Process
✔ Continue picking cylinders until:
No further cylinders are detected.
The Pick Points/Lines window is closed.
✔ Note: Even if the survey points are not saved, the detected cylinders remain in the Explorer for later use.
4. Key Benefits of the Pick Cylinder Tool
✔ Fast & Accurate Detection – Automatically detects cylindrical objects.
✔ Efficient Surveying – Places survey points at the base of each cylinder.
✔ Customizable Parameters – Adjust detection settings for optimal accuracy.
✔ Seamless Data Integration – Detected cylinders are stored in the Explorer for further processing.
