Measuring Distances
Menu: Survey / Measure distance
The Measure Distance function in VisionLidar allows users to accurately measure distances and angles within the point cloud. This tool is part of the Measure Kit and provides 2D, 3D, and elevation-based measurements, enabling users to extract precise spatial data.
1. Measuring Distances
✔ Select Survey / Measure Distance to launch the Measure Kit.
✔ The tool will be set to "Measure Distance 2D" by default.
✔ Click on two points in the point cloud to measure the distance between them.
✔ The measurement results will appear at the bottom of the screen in a report format.
✔ The report can be saved as a text file for documentation.
💡 Distance measurements can be used for site planning, surveying, and analysis.
Available Distance Measurement Modes
📌 2D Distance (Planimetric) – Measures the horizontal distance between two points.
📌 3D Distance (True Distance) – Calculates the actual spatial distance in 3D space.
📌 dZ (Elevation Difference) – Provides the vertical height difference between two points.
2. Measuring Angles
✔ Select the Measure Angle function in the Measure Kit.
✔ Click on three points in the point cloud:
The first and third points define the angle's endpoints.
The second point is the vertex (pivot point).
✔ The measured angle is displayed at the bottom of the screen.
✔ The results can be saved as a text file for documentation.
Available Angle Measurement Modes
📌 2D Angle (Planimetric) – Measures the angle in a horizontal plane (XY projection).
📌 3D Angle (True Angle) – Computes the actual spatial angle between three points.
💡 Angle measurements are useful for structural analysis, slope calculations, and feature alignment.
