Profile Preferences

Profile Preferences

The Profile Preferences section in VisionLidar allows users to customize the appearance, scale, and annotation settings for profiles. Configuring these preferences ensures consistent presentation and accurate representation of alignment-based profiles.

1. Understanding Profile Preferences

Save and Load Multiple Configurations – Users can save different profile styles for various projects.
Fixed vs. Break-Based Grids – Profiles can be displayed as single continuous grids or split across multiple sections.
Customizable Grid and Annotation Settings – Adjust grid width, height, and overlap distance for clarity in long profiles.
Flexible Elevation and Chaining Scaling – Control Y-axis (elevation) and X-axis (chaining) scaling independently.

2. Key Profile Settings and Options

Profile Parameters

Option

Description

Line to Draw Profile

Defines the line type used for drawing the profile.

Text to Draw Profile

Specifies the text style used for slope and elevation annotations.

Elev. Scale

Controls the Y-axis scale, adjusting vertical exaggeration.

Chaining Scale

Controls the X-axis scale, defining horizontal spacing.

Dist. Between Grids

Defines spacing between profile grids in multi-grid (breaks) mode.

Dist. for Breaks

Specifies the separation between profile breaks within a grid.

Ext. Start / Ext. End

Sets horizontal margins before and after the profile.

Overlap Start / Overlap End

Defines the overlap between grids in break-based profiles.

Width / Height

Defines the grid’s dimensions (Height is disabled for "Fixed Altitude" mode).

Inf. Margin / Sup. Margin

Adjusts the vertical spacing between profile elements.

Grid Settings

Option

Description

Line to Draw Frame

Defines the frame’s line type.

Interval

Determines the grid spacing for chaining and elevation marks.

Lines

Specifies the grid’s line type.

Text

Defines the font type for interval and scale labels.

Decim.

Controls the number of decimal places for interval annotations.

Dist. (Offset)

Distance between ticks and interval text labels.

Tics

Specifies the line type for grid ticks.

Length

Defines the tick length (must be shorter than the offset distance).

Annotation Settings

Option

Description

Draw Line?

Enables drawing annotation lines between grid elements.

Up to Grid / Up to Line

Determines if annotation lines stop at the grid or extend to the profile line.

Length of Line

Adjusts the distance between annotations and the profile graph.

Primary Chaining

Displays elevation values for primary chainings (Z CL, Z Surf, Z Diff).

Horizontal Curves

Enables annotations for horizontal curve points (PI, start chainage, elevations).

Vertical Curves

Displays elevation data for PVI and high/low points on vertical curves.

PI Points

Displays elevation annotations for raw alignment PI points.

Pipe Annotations (For Utility Design)

Option

Description

Diameter

Defines the text style for pipe diameter annotations.

Length

Specifies the text style for pipe length annotations.

Altitude

Sets the text style for pipe elevation labels.

Height

Controls the text style for pipe height labels.

3. Best Practices for Profile Preferences

Use fixed altitude mode for simple profiles and break-based mode for long profiles.
Ensure grid interval and annotation spacing are optimized for readability.
Customize profile styles in templates for efficient use in future projects.
Adjust chaining and elevation scales independently for better data visualization.
Enable key annotation settings for clarity in road, railway, and utility design.
