Outline Tab

Menu: Civil / Start / Surfaces Outline

The Outline Tab in VisionLidar’s Civil Module provides tools for defining, modifying, and managing surface outlines. These outlines play a crucial role in controlling surface boundaries for volume calculations, triangulation, and corridor generation.

1. Understanding Surface Outlines

Defines the Boundary of the Surface

  • The outline must be closed (starting and ending at the same point).

  • Automatically generated in the Drawing menu or manually adjusted.

Prevents False Triangles at the Edges

  • Ensures that the triangulation stays within defined limits.

Supports Dynamic Editing

  • Modify, move, or generate outlines from existing lines or alignments.

2. Available Functions in the Outline Tab

Right-clicking on an outline point provides further options, including zooming to the point, modifying elevations, converting a polyline into an outline, and ensuring that the outline is fully closed. Adjusting elevations within the outline prevents false triangles at the surface edges during triangulation.

3. Best Practices for Surface Outline Management

Always ensure the outline is closed to avoid surface triangulation errors.
Use "Modify Elevation" to interpolate unknown elevations and improve accuracy.
Generate outlines from existing lines to speed up processing.
Utilize alignment-based outlines for roads, railways, and corridors.
