Triangles tab
Menu: Civil / Start / Surfaces / Triangles
The Triangles Tab in VisionLidar’s Civil Module provides tools for managing the triangles that form the surface's triangulated mesh (TIN - Triangulated Irregular Network). It enables users to filter, visualize, edit, and analyze triangles to refine surface accuracy and ensure reliable modeling. This section explains how to efficiently modify, filter, and calculate surface areas using the available tools.
1. Understanding the Triangles Tab
✔ Manages the Triangles that Form the Surface
Triangles are generated from surface points and breaklines.
The triangulation process creates a mesh that defines the surface.
Users can filter, erase, redraw, and modify triangles.
✔ Special Options in the Menu
Filter Triangles: Display only specific triangles based on on-screen selection, radius from a point, elevation, etc.
Show/Hide Coordinates: Choose whether to display the X, Y, Z coordinates of each triangle’s vertices.
2. Available Functions in the Triangles Tab
Main Toolbar Buttons
Button | Description |
---|---|
Filter Triangles | Allows users to filter triangles based on on-screen selection, elevation, radius, etc. |
Show/Hide Coordinates | Toggles the display of X, Y, Z coordinates for triangle vertices. |
Draw Selected | Displays selected triangles in the main viewer. |
Erase Selected | Removes selected triangles from the display. |
Draw All | Draws all filtered triangles on the screen. |
Erase All | Erases all filtered triangles from the display. |
Delete All | Permanently deletes all triangles from the surface. |
Area Calculation | Computes the total area of all filtered triangles and generates a report. |
3. Right-Click Pop-Up Menu
The pop-up menu provides additional quick-access tools for triangle management.
Option | Description |
---|---|
Select All | Selects all triangles in the table. |
Clear Selection | Unselects all currently selected triangles. |
Draw Selected | Draws only the checked triangles in the viewer. |
Erase Selected | Erases only the checked triangles from the viewer. |
Draw All | Draws all filtered triangles on screen. |
Erase All | Erases all filtered triangles from the display. |
Expand | Displays the coordinates of the triangles' vertices. |
Collapse | Hides the coordinates of the triangles' vertices. |
Delete All | Permanently deletes all triangles in the table. |
Area Calculation | Computes the total surface area of the filtered triangles and generates a text report. |
4. Best Practices for Triangle Management
✔ Use filters to display only relevant triangles before modifying or deleting them.
✔ Hide coordinates when working with large surfaces to improve readability.
✔ Perform area calculations to analyze specific sections of the surface.
✔ Erase and redraw triangles to test different triangulation strategies.
✔ Delete unnecessary triangles to refine surface geometry for modeling purposes.
